Newton's method and FFT trading

چکیده
Let C[[z]] be the ring of power series over an effective ring C. In Brent and Kung (1978), it was first shown that differential equations over C[[z]] may be solved in an asymptotically efficient way using Newton’s method. More precisely, if M(n) denotes the complexity for multiplying two polynomials of degree < n over C, then the first n coefficients of the solution can be computed in time O(M(n)). However, this complexity does not take into account the dependency on the order r of the equation, which is exponential for the original method van der Hoeven (2002) and quadratic for a recent improvement Bostan et al. (2007). In this paper, we present a technique to further improve the dependency on r, by applying Newton’s method up to a lower order, such as n/r, and trading the remaining Newton steps against a lazy or relaxed algorithm in a suitable FFT model. The technique leads to improved asymptotic complexities for several basic operations on formal power series, such as division, exponentiation and the resolution of more general linear and non-linear systems of equations.

متن کاملA Fast Newton Algorithm for Entropy Maximization in Phase Determination
A long-standing issue in the Bayesian statistical approach to the phase problem in X-ray crystallography is to solve an entropy maxi-mization subproblem eeciently in every iteration of phase estimation. The entropy maximization problem is a semi-innnite convex program and can be solved in a nite dual space by using a standard Newton's method. However, the Newton's method is too expensive for th...
متن کاملON MULTIPHASE ALGORITHM FOR SINGLE VARIABLE EQUATION USING NEWTON'S CORRECTION METHOD
This paper brings to light a method based on Multiphase algorithm for single variable equation using Newton's correction. Newton's method is derived through the logarithmic differentiation of polynomial equation. A correction term which enhances the high speed of convergence is hereby introduced. A translation of Newton's method to Total Step and Single Step Methods (T. S. M and S. S. M) re...
متن کاملNonlinear and Non-stationary Vibration Analysis for Mechanical Fault Detection by Using EMD-FFT Method
The Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) is a powerful method for nonlinear and non-stationary vibrations analysis. This approach consists of two basic parts of empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and Hilbert spectral analysis (HSA). To achieve the reliable results, Bedrosian and Nuttall theorems should be satisfied. Otherwise, the phase and amplitude functions are mixed together and consequently, the ...
متن کاملTrading Regions Under Proportional Transaction Costs
In the Black-Scholes model optimal trading for maximizing expected power utility under proportional transaction costs can be described by three intervals B, NT , S: If the proportion of wealth invested in the stocks lies in B, NT , S, then buying, not trading and selling, respectively, are optimal. For a finite time horizon, the boundaries of these trading regions depend on time and on the term...
